Sony divulges PS3 information at the Taipei Game Show
Sony will definitely be releasing the PS3 in 2006, combating rumors that the console could slip to 2007.
The news comes from Tetsuhiko Yasuda, managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment Asia, who spoke yesterday at the Taipei Game Show. He did not clarify whether he was referring to the Asian market, the US market, or a worldwide launch scheme.
Meanwhile, speculation continued to expand. One unconfirmed report claimed that Yasuda had suggested that Sony might actually work with game rival Microsoft to develop games together. As far-fetched as it might sound, the report indicated that Yasuda didn't consider Microsoft to be a threat.
Elsewhere, the Chinese Economic Daily News, via Digitimes, reported that Sony was preparing to award Foxconn and Asustek lucrative PS3 manufacturing contracts should Sony be unable to manufacture enough to meet demand. Hardcore PC gamers may recognize both companies as manufacturers of PC motherboards and high-end video cards.
