Nintendo of America unleashed another surprise today...and no, it wasn't a U.S. release date for the Nintendo DS Lite (we wish!).
First, the bad news: Nintendo of America bucked expectations today by not releasing any new information about the redesigned Nintendo DS Lite, a sleek redesign of the hit handheld that has earned iPod-like raves from the gaming community.
Now for the good news: the upcoming DS game Metroid Prime: Hunters will feature real-time voice chat.
That's the word from Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing, who spoke today at the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences' D.I.C.E. conference in Las Vegas.
One caveat: the voice chat in Metroid Prime: Hunters will be limited to two players, and it won't take place during the action, only before and after matches.
How good is the voice quality? In an interview with GamePro, Fils-Aime said that the VoIP sounded "simply outstanding."
Metroid Prime: Hunters is currently scheduled for release in mid-March. We'll have more news and updates as they come.
