EA Announces "Re-imagined" LOTR: Battle for Middle-earth II on Xbox 360

EA today formally announced The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II for the Xbox 360.

But it's not what you're thinking: according to EA, this is no mere port.

Gamasutra's interview with EA Los Angeles's Louis Castle came up with a few interesting tidbits, such as the fact that this version is a "re-imagining" of the upcoming PC title. Castle also claims that the control scheme and interface are simple and intuitive.

Other noteworthy new features include extensive Xbox Live support and all-new multiplayer game types, like Hero versus Hero and King of the Hill.

As in the PC version, you can build massive fortresses, command nearly every race (including Elves and Dwarves). And what Lord of the Rings game would be complete without Hugo Weaving chiming in as Agent Smit...er, Lord Elrond?

EA has kindly passed along the very first screens from the game. Here's one now--check it out!
