PSP Tops DS in Japanese Hardware Sales

Nintendo DS shortages boost the PSP into the top slot

Nintendo DS hardware shortages and low Japanese stock levels have bumped the Sony PSP into the top slot in hardware sales this week.

The PSP has sold approximately 133,000 units in Japan over the last week, compared to 91,000 Nintendo DS units, a fraction of the 600,000 units the DS sold in one previous week this month.

DS software sales are still going strong, with More DS Training for Adults: Work Your Brain surpassing the 700,000 unit mark, while Animal Crossing: Wild World and Mario Kart DS continue to thrive.

Nintendo has promised a prompt restocking, though industry sources are speculating that Nintendo will announce a redesigned DS next week.
