Peter Moore: Xbox 360 Could Use Sony's Blu-ray

First HD-DVD, now the possibility of Blu-ray for the Xbox 360.

Speaking to Japanese site ITMedia, Microsoft's Peter Moore has clarified the company's position concerning the upcoming next-gen DVD war.

Or not.

Translating Japanese into English is a notoriously hairy process, especially considering Moore's PR-friendly delivery and the technical nature of the conversation.

GamePro's internal translation of Moore's statements shows a subtler side: "While we do plan on an external drive of some form, it is possible for us to adapt to future changes in the [next-gen DVD market] situation."

IGN's Japanese translation is less subtle and more direct: "[B]ecause we've gone with an external form of device, we can remain compatible with changes to the situation in the future."

Gamasutra's translation shows yet another angle: "Since we're using external drives [for next-gen media], we can change as the market changes."

In the interview, Moore also explains that because Sony designed Blu-ray, they would be in trouble should that next-gen format fail.

Moore also clarifies that the HD-DVD drive is intended for movies, not games.
