DS Sells 5 Million in '05

Nintendo DS breaks Japanese console sales records

The Nintendo DS sold through five million units in Japan last year, with four DS titles reaching over one million units sold.

The DS got off to a slow start when it launched in late 2004, but a slew of critically acclaimed games, including Nintendogs, Mario Kart DS, and Animal Crossing DS, helped boost unit sales during the second half of 2005.

The DS is, according to Nintendo, the fastest-selling console in Japan, selling even more units in one year than the GBA and the PS2.
