Blizzard's MMORPG phenomenon poised to grab even more users in the asian market.
Blizzard today announced that World of Warcraft has officially launched in the region of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, potentially generating even more users than its current high of 4.5 million. The game saw a popular beta test phase, with a total number of testers at 800,000, and simultaneous users at 140,000--which almost guarantees the game hitting the 5 million mark.
"Gamers in these regions have always shown great support for Blizzard games, so it was important to us to launch World of Warcraft there as quickly as possible,... said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "We're now looking forward to seeing all of our newest players online and providing them with an unsurpassed gaming experience."
Each CD-key package, which includes the game, costs 42 HKD (about $5.42) and includes 99 free World of Warcraft points, which are used for game time. Points expire at a rate of 5 per hour (which comes out to about 16 cents per hour).
