In-game Funeral Held for World of Warcraft Player

"Snowly," who died from playing too much WoW, gets remembered in an online mourning event.

World of Warcraft has been a host to online marriages--and now online funerals. "Snowly," a young girl in the Chinese realm of World of Warcraft, died last month as a result of playing the MMORPG for several continuous days. In remembrance of her, members from the realm gathered together in a big online funeral a week after her death. The event was overshadowed by the death of another in the game who went by the name of "Nan Ren Gu Shi."

Gaming addiction has been a major issue in China, with the government even imposing three-hour restrictions on gameplay. Seven major domestic game makers have agreed to install an anti-obsession system on 11 online games, which is expected to go into effect in 2006.

Fantasy merges with reality in this somber procession.
