15% of DS owners bought the game in the first week alone.
Nintendo unveiled the first-week sales for Nintendogs in the U.S., and boy, are they something.Nintendogs sold a quarter of a million copies in the first week of availability, with some stores reporting that they've completely sold out. A quick Amazon search also confirms that all three versions of the game--Dachshund, Labrador Retriever, and Chihauhau--and the DS unit itself reside comfortably in the top ten most popular game products on all of Amazon.com.
Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime, executive VP of sales & marketing, also claims that 15 percent of all DS owners bought the game in the first week alone, adding that this is a "virtually unprecendented adoption rate for any title on an established system."
This comes as especially good news for Nintendo, who has been seeing brisk but unspectacular sales of its DS line. Coupled with the DS's new price drop, which puts the system at a mass market-friendly $129, the DS is poised for massive profits this holiday. Then there is the news that Nintendo will launch a free Wi-Fi Connection service by the end of the year, which will be compatible with Metroid Prime: Hunters.
