Namco Picks Up Game Rights to Afro Samurai

Namco picks up the game rights to Takashi Okazaki's anime property Afro Samurai.

Namco Hometek announced todya that Japanese animation studio GDH has granted them exclusive interactive entertainment rights to their Afro Samurai property. Under the deal, Namco will be granted the right to produce two Afro Samurai titles in the next five years.

"'Afro Samurai' is a visually striking and rich story." said Jeff Lujan, business director at Namco Hometek Inc. "With its gritty and unique mix of hip-hop and samurai styling, 'Afro Samurai' is perfectly suited for video games. We are looking forward to working with GDH in bringing this exciting new property to life."

Afro Samurai follows the adventures of a man's journey and quest for revenge, stalking a man that seemingly cannot be killed, all while running from a mysterious enemies in a dystopian and futuristic world where bullets and swords clash with each other. The series, which started off in comic form, will soon become an animated mini-series. Samurel Jackson has already signed on and will co-produce the property and lend his voice to the main character.
