Lik-Sang Taken To Court Over PSP Imports

Lik-Sang is informed that they've been taken to court by Sony Europe for shipping PSPs to the continent.

Lik-Sang was informed today that they've been taken to court by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited and Sony Computer Entertianment Inc. for selling imported PSPs in Europe. The lawsuit was filed in the High Court of Hong Kong today.

Sony of Europe claims in the lawsuit that Lik-Sang has violated trademarks held by Sony through the sale of PSP consoles in the United Kingdom. As part of the lawsuit, Sony seeks to bar the future sales of PSPs, games, and accessories from the company that are bound for the UK and the European Economic Area (EAA).

The lawsuit also cites a recently removed PSP manual that Lik-Sang had posted on their website. Sony claims that recreating the manual online infringes on their copyright and had warned the company to remove the image on June 14th, 2005. The manual was subsequently removed.

"Lik-Sang's sales are an unlawful interference with Sony's economic interests", stated Sony's legal correspondence. The case relies on Sony's claim, that Lik-Sang.com has advertised the PlayStation Portable products in a "dishonest manner". Lik-Sang.com will do its best to fight Sony's powers and appreciates any support from employees, friends and even customers.

"This is the most aggressive move against its own customers that a console manufacturer has ever taken in the 30 year history of videogames", says Pascal Clarysse, Marketing Manager for Lik-Sang.com. "Sony wants to completely cut hardcore gamers away from items released in Japan or anywhere else outside their own country. A very active part of the gaming community has been enjoying Japanese gaming culture for over two decades, and that's what the Empire is now willing to destroy."

We'll keep you posted as more details become available.
