EverQuest II Reaches 500,000 Users

SOE's venerable RPG hits a respectable mark, but falls short of World of Warcraft.

According to an interview with Japanese gaming site Game Watch, Sony Online Entertainment Community Relations Director Alan Crosby said EverQuest II has about 500,000 users worldwide.

"[The total number of users] has reached approximately 500,000 people," said Crosby.

When asked about other numbers, such as Station Exchange users, Crosby said the company wasn't yet ready to post official figures, but that the service has received favorable feedback from subscribers.

"We have received feedback that the interface is hard to use, but overall [Station Exchange] has been praised," Crosby told Game Watch.

While by no means a failure, EverQuest II has been eclipsed by World of Warcraft, which recently hit a milestone of 3.5 million users worldwide. EQII's upcoming expansion, Desert of Flame, will focus more on PvP, allowing users to raise monsters to use in arena battles.
