San Andreas Banned Down Under

Australia's ratings board deems San Andreas "pornographic", prompts retail removal.

The "hot coffee" scandal continues to boil. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been pulled from retail shelves in Australia, a decision that was made by the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFCL), Australia's film, computer game and publication ratings board.

The OFCL deemed the "hot coffee" content "pornographic" and revoked the game's MA15+ rating, the highest awarding that can be given to a computer game.

OFCL director Des Clark encouraged businesses to remove existing stocks of the game, and advised parents to "exercise caution" when allowing their children to continue playing GTA: San Andreas.

Two other Rockstar published games, Grand Theft Auto III and Manhunt, were previously banned in Australia, and a third, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was edited to suit the country's strict ratings standards.

Alongside North America's ESRB, the OFCL becomes the second national ratings board to reclassify the game, prompting its immediate removal from retail shelves.
