Video Ads Debuting in Anarchy Online

Billboard ads to cause issues with lag?

Funcom has announced that it will work with Massive Incorporated to bring video ads to its MMORPG Anarchy Online.

The ads, which can be both audio and visual, will start playing as soon as players enter select areas or zones. Using a combination of code created by Massive Incorporated, Funcom coders and technology licensed from RAD Game tools, the ads purportedly do not increase latency, interrupt gameplay or gather personal information from players. While paid-subscribers can opt in or out to see the ads, players on the free version will see the ads throughout city environments.

Panasonic and Channel 4 will be the first companies to start the video ads.
