EA Snags LotR Book Rights

The video game publishing giant to make games based on 'Rings' book series.

It's Monday morning business as usual for Electronic Arts, the world's largest video game publisher. EA said today that it has obtained the rights to produce games based on the best-selling Lord of the Rings book series. EA already has exclusive rights to the popular movie trilogy.

The deal with Tolkien Enterprises stemmed from Vivendi Universal Games', the company that previously held the 'Rings' book rights, mediocre success with the literary franchise. EA already has two games based on the book series in development.

No other details about the deal were revealed.
