Best Buy Drops San Andreas

The video game and electronic retailer removes all versions of GTA: San Andreas from its North American stores.

In reaction to Rockstar Games' announcement yesterday that it had changed the ESRB rating on all versions of its controversial, best-selling title Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to adults-only (AO), Best Buy is immediately removing all copies of the game from its North American stores, bestbuy.com, bestbuy.ca, and futureshop.ca. It is Best Buy company policy not carry AO rated video games.

The recent 'hot coffee' scandal put Rockstar in hot water for including hidden sexual content in San Andreas that can be opened up by installing a downloadable modification.

A strong supporter of the ERSB system, Best Buy's decision to remove San Andreas is based on its commitment to helping customers make informed decisions about their products. The company hopes to send a "strong message" to game developers to encourage complete cooperation with the ERSB. More North American video game retailers are expected to follow the same trend.
