Halo 2 Online Cheaters Get Smashed by Bungie's Banhammer

Cheaters can run, but they can't hide from the ever-watchful eye of Bungie.

Last night, Bungie released Auto Update 4 for Halo 2. This latest anti-cheating update specifically scans for "modded" content that resides on the Xbox's internal hard drive; if any Xbox modifications are detected, the Auto Update immediately bans the individual from Xbox Live matchmaking play.

The patch addresses cheating in a wide variety of other forms, including Pro Action Replay cheats, so-called "softmods," modified Xbox hardware, and custom game types jury-rigged to play online in matchmaking. The update also addresses a widely-known teleporter bug in the Relic map.

Bungie has stated that there will be no appeal process for cheaters, so if you get caught, you're pretty much screwed.
