Nintendo Revolution Specs "Leaked"

Or more likely, some anonymous person decided to spit out generic next-gen looking figures.

Internet, the most credible source of information, has yet again been stirred up with supposed leaked specs of Nintendo's next-generation console codenamed Revolution.

Appearing on a blog site, the specifications were supposedly e-mailed by a developer who asked to remain anonymous. The next-gen system will supposedly have two 1.8 GHz G5 processors, 256MB of DRAM, 128MB of SRAM as main memory, and "HD" 6GB DVD discs.

While sounding professional and mildly believable on the surface, it doesn't take too much examining to see that the specs are fake. Nintendo has already stated the Revolution will be able to play DVDs (though likely not out of the box), yet the "HD Dual Layer" discs will purportedly hold 6 GBs--less than even the dual-layered DVDs currently out on the market. Two G5s in a small DVD case-sized unit seems not only impractical but difficult to execute--heat generation from two processors as opposed to multicore would be especially problematic, especially in such a small casing. And why would Nintendo use slow DRAM, especially in a time when the PlayStation 3 will be using the latest XDR RAM?

Nintendo has had a history of being tight-lipped on its next-gen development, so it's best to regard most "leaks" as nothing more than entertaining fiction.
