Half-Life 2 Launches at Retailers and Online

The wait is finally over for Valve's critically acclaimed PC shooter.

After source code leaks, conspiracy theories, and a year-long delay, the day has finally come--Half-Life 2 has shipped to retailers across the world--and is also available to download online from Valve's Steam distribution service.

In what is the most highly anticipated PC game of the year, the game faced countless hurdles toward its release, namely the not-so-subtle conflict between developer Valve and publisher Vivendi Universal Games. The game has been released even despite an ongoing legal battle, stemming from the publisher's displeasure with Valve making the game available through Steam.

The game was originally slated for release in September 2003, but a source code leak caused the game to be delayed for over a year.
