Publicity Stunt for EA's Game The Sims 2 Creates Real-Life Counterpart.
The latest in fantasy meets reality-marketing campaigns; Electronic Arts and a family from the Netherlands are creating a living version of The Sims; the hugely popular game revolving around the control of a virtual family. The Associated Press reports the family moved into the cramped but well-appointed trailer roughly 25 miles outside of Amsterdam last Wednesday, where the Sturkenbooms are forced to live out the requests made by EA headquarters in Redwood City, as well as by those who watch the story unfold by webcam. One particular request required the Sturkenbooms to have goldfish delivered from all 12 provinces in the Netherlands.
Already an immensely popular property of Electronic Arts', The Sims franchise is being heavily advertised with the release of The Sims 2. With the inclusion of the Sturkenboom's adventure, anticipation for the game should become even greater.
And the compensation for spending 4 days living out their lives in front of the world? Roughly $4,000 dollars to spend on electronics; certainly enough simoleans to buy a few goodies to impress the neighbors.
