Despite selling the franchise for Bethesda, Interplay still holds some strings to the series.
In Interplay's report for its covering the quarter and six months ended, June 30th, 2004, the company has revealed the details of the fate of the Fallout franchise. Following the shutdown of its offices in Irvine, California, Interplay sold Fallout 3 for $1.175 million, and gives Bethesda the option to develop a Fallout 4 and Fallout 5 for $1.0 million minimum guaranteed advance against royalties per sequel. Interestingly, Interplay still has the right to develop a MMO game based on the Fallout universe, perhaps hinting that the financially crippled publisher still has interest in the franchise. In related but less substantial news, Interplay has also revealed that it sold the rights to Redneck Rampage to Vivendi Universal Games on July 2, 2004, for $300,000.
