Publisher backs both Nintendo and Sony's upcoming handhelds.

Activision announced today that it will release Spider-Man 2 and Tony Hawk's Underground 2 on the PSP in conjunction with the handheld's launch. Both already available on consoles and PC, Tony Hawk 2 is in development at Shaba Games, while Spider-Man 2 is being worked on at Vicarious Visions.

"SCEA's PlayStation Portable Entertainment Platform is an exciting new platform that combines processing power with a sleek new look that will appeal to an older demographic," said Kathy Vrabeck, president of Activision Publishing. "By matching our top brands like Tony Hawk's Underground 2 and Spider-Man 2 with the new entertainment device, we are able to broaden our consumer base and leverage our franchises into new areas."

The PSP is expected to be released early next year stateside, and will see a release holiday 2004 in Japan.
