Valve Reveals Half-Life 2 Bundle Options, Starts Another Preload Phase

Game to come in three flavors over Steam - Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Still silent about the exact release (due to the legal squabbles with publisher Vivendi Universal Games) (gamesindustry.biz), Valve has announced five different options to purchase Half-Life 2--two retail and three onlin.

Buying the game in stores, consumers either have the choice between the standard six-CD version with Counter-Strike: Source, or a Collector's Edition with the DVD version, CS: Source, Half-Life: Source, a t-shirt, and a Prima strategy guide.

Over the controversial Steam digital distribution, Valve offers Bronze, which is like the standard retail version; Silver, which includes Half-Life: Source and Day of Defeat: Source, as well as back catalogue of products from Valve including Half-Life Deathmatch, Ricochet, and Deathmatch Classic; Gold, which has all the content in the Silver plus a Prima strategy guide, three posters, a hat, a postcard, stickers, soundtrack CD, and an entry to win a trip to Valve's Seattle offices.

In other news, the fifth phase for pre-loading has started, enabling users to download encrypted Counter-Strike: Source maps. Downloading the content is free, but users will need to pay to decrypt and play the games.

Half-Life 2 seems ready to hit retailers soon, but its release date hinges on Vivendi Universal, who may hold out to get a deal more favorable for the publisher.
