Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Become a Video Game

Tim Burton's movie remake of the classic Roald Dahl book to launch along the game.

Global Star Software, a unit of Take Two Interactive, will be publishing a new game based on Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory remake, slated for a July 15 release. The film will star Johnny Depp as the eccentric chocolate mogul Willy Wanka and Freddie Highmore as bright-eyed Charlie.

No details of the game are yet known at this point, other than that it would retain the feel of the storytelling of the new movie.

"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has entertained audiences around the globe for over 40 years," said Christoph Hartmann, Global Star Software's senior vp publishing. "The bright and colorful settings, iconic storytelling and beloved characters are a perfect match for this medium."

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be developed by High Voltage Software for PS2, GC, and Xbox, while GBA and PC game development will be handled by Backbone Entertainment.
