Half-Life 2 Golden Monday?

Yet another security flub causes false word to get out.

According to a post by Gabe Newell on the Half-Life 2 Fallout forums, Half-Life 2 was to go gold Monday, August 30. "We're going gold Monday," read the brief post, causing a stir within the Internet community.

Unfortunately, it turned out to be a hoax, as somebody hacked into Newell's account and masqueraded as the Valve founder. In response to the post, Newell confirmed that the news was "100% fake."

Half-Life 2 began preloading for Valve subscribers last week, and the downloads were missing several key components for the game, which were reportedly still being debugged.

Newell previously stated that they expected to finish the bug testing in August, which would pin the release down to November.
