Half-Life 2 Preloading Begins

Users can now download encrypted Half-Life 2 resources in preparation for the game's release.

Valve has announced that it started the pre-loading for Half-Life 2 via Steam, allowing users to download the game content before its release. No purchase is required to pre-load the game, but is obviously required to activate the game. Once the game is released, those who have pre-loaded and purchased the game can immediately start playing after authentication.

With the pre-load already in place, the game finally seems to be on a definitive track for a release this holiday season. When exactly however, remains unknown.
