Mortal Kombat 7 for PS3, Xbox Next and Wireless Platforms to be Developed by Midway

Midway CEO announces plans for a Mortal Kombat Deception sequel early in the game.

Sequel announcements for huge franchises are usually the product of cautious marketing strategizing in board rooms, and Midway's CEO surprised attendees at the RBC Capital Market's North American Technology Conference in California, announcing that a seventh installment to the Mortal Kombat franchise is planned for the PlayStation 3, Xbox Next, and a third wireless platform.

"We're making Mortal Kombat 7," said Midway CEO David Zucker. "We'll have a PS3 SKU and an Xbox 2 SKU and we'll have a wireless SKU." Not surprisingly, no further details were unveiled.

Such an announcement being made before the release of Mortal Kombat Deception, and before the unveiling of both Sony and Microsoft's next-gen consoles breaks the convention of cautious hints and innuendos--the move perhaps may be a deliberate one to spur interest into the company, which recently entered financial troubles due to the lack of high-profile sellers.

Mortal Kombat: Deception, the sixth installment to the infamously graphic series, is slated for release this October for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox.
