Fight Night Leads Game Sales For the First Half of 2004

A sports heavy line-up leads NPD's figures for the first half of 2004.
The NPD Group announced the top ten selling video games for the first half of 2004, showing sports titles to be hot sellers. From January to June 2004, hardware, software and accessories were down 2.5 percent compared to last year, with totaling sales of $3.4 billion, as opposed to the $3.5 billion recorded last year. Unit sales were up 1% this year, with software revenue up 4%. Accessory revenue saw a small increase at 8%, but Internet peripherals and specialty controllers saw a considerable jump of 120 and 184 percent, respectively. Console hardware, portable hardware and portable software sale dollar sales down by 17%, 10% and 12%.The top ten games for January to June 2004 were:

- Tom Clancy?fs Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow (Xbox/Ubisoft)
- Shrek 2 (PlayStation 2/Activision)
- Spider-Man The Movie (PlayStation 2/Activision)
