Half-Life 2 Verging on Release?

After delays, conspiracy theories and conjectures, the game finally seems to be in its final stages.

With Doom 3 close to release, PC gamers can also start looking for Half-Life 2 in stores soon (hopefully). Valve's Gabe Newell reassured those eagerly anticipating the title that "at our current rate of find/fix bugs, we'll be down to zero bugs in 16 days." With the game potentially going gold in mid-August, the game may see a release as early as September.

After the disastrous source code leak last year that lead to a series of delays, Valve has been understandably subdued in its announcements regarding the release of the title--over-inflating the series with hype could potentially tank it (Dai-Katana being an extreme and shining example). Hence, the company is slowly revealing little tidbits of information, including system specs and voice acting roster--showing that the game is tangibly moving forward.

In related news, Counter-strike: Source beta downloads will begin on August 5th, with the beta itself starting on August 10th. The beta testing will be open to those who own Counter-Strike: Condition Zero.
