Company putting big hopes in a game with mixed reviews.
After a series of delays and much hype surrounding voiceovers and movie shorts, Atari has released Driv3r in mass quantities, shipping over 2.5 million copies worldwide (North America, Europe, and Australia). It's important to note that this doesn't mean that it sold 2.5 million copies--it only means that 2.5 million copies were sent to retailers. Sending out such a large shipment shows the retailers' and Atari's confidence in the game putting out strong sales--despite having mixed reviews across various publications. EB Games expects Driv3r to be one of its top three sellers for June.
Whether or not the game will ride the market hype and drives into the sunset remains to be seen.
