A man sits in jail for talking about a bomb in GTA over the phone.
"There's a bomb in the building. There's a bomb in the building. Everyone needs to get out!" A co-worker overhears the frantic cries over the phone and calls police, thinking it was undoubtedly an ominous warning of terrorist doom to come.In reality, it was Anthony Jones playing Grand Theft Auto at his friend's house, warning the other person playing to get out.
Unfortunately, this made no difference to the police, who arrested Jones, 27, charging him with making a false report about planting a bomb or explosive, a second-degree felony that carries a maximum 15 year sentence in prison.
As result of the misinterpreted threat, Jacksonville.com reports that a North Jacksonville restaurant was quickly evacuated and searched for explosives, somehow overlooking the fact that the statement was made in reference to a video game.
Assistant State Attorney Mose Floyd had no comment on the case, saying that it is still under investigation.
Erstwhile, Jones remained in jail on Tuesday instead of posting a $5,003 bail. His case is scheduled for Circuit Court on June 16.
