989 Sports Lineup Cancelled

Four titles to take one season off to "make products competitive."

Sony Computer Entertainment America and 989 Sports announced today that the NFL GameDay, NCAA GameBreaker, NBA ShootOut, and NCAA Final Four will be cancelled for this year. However, 989 Sports' MLB, an all-new NHL Hockey franchise and their World Tour Soccer series will still see a release, as well as the officially licensed Athens 2004.

Sony Computer Entertainment America has cited the "extremely competitive" nature of sports titles, and "has decided to provide the development teams with the additional time needed to make products competitive and more importantly to provide compelling new content for consumers."

The company will continue support for the 989SportsOnline.com for existing franchises, and "will continue to build out the existing online feature sets along with new online-enabled games."
