Capcom Announces Viewtiful Joe 2 for PlayStation 2

Capcom announces newly formed Clover Studio, and says original Viewtiful Joe to see a PS2 release.

Along with the formation of its new Clover Studio, Capcom has announced the development of Viewtiful Joe 2 for the PlayStation 2 and GameCube. The next installment will feature the same cel-shaded 2D/3D hybrid fighting as the original, and will have Joe's girlfriend Silvia as a playable character (Joe and Silvia will both be playable from the beginning of the game).

In addition to the Mach Speed, Slow, and Zoom In visual effects powers, Joe has a new Replay power that enables him to receive three times the effect of an action by replaying it--replay eating a hamburger for three times the healing, replay a punch for three times the damage, or replay when getting hit for three times the damage. Other features include over 40 types of enemies, varied environments including jungles, underground ruins, ancient Japan, snowy mountains, and outer space. Joe's Six Machine now transports into forms such as a racer, cannon, drill, or submarine, which is used to pass obstacles throughout various stages.

In related news, the original version of Viewtiful Joe will see a release on the PlayStation 2. Both games are being developed by Clover Studio, an internal development studio recently formed that is comprised of the makers of Resident Evil, and Devil May Cry, and Gyakuten Saiban. Interestingly, Devil May Cry's Dante will be making an appearance in the PS2 version of Viewtiful Joe.

Viewtiful Joe 2 is slated for release in winter 2004.
