First massively multiplayer online game to link AIM identities to game characters.
America Online and Warner Bros. announced today that AOL Instant Messenger service will be integrated into massively multiplayer online game The Matrix Online. This will mark the first game that allows players to link AIM identities into an in-game character, allowing for Matrix players to communicate inside and outside the game."Bringing AOL's expansive instant messaging technology to The Matrix Online will tremendously enhance the massively multi-player gaming experience," said Jason Hall, senior vice president, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "Players will now be able to alert other players, via the Internet or their phones, to join them on missions in The Matrix Online and will be able to talk freely while in combat or searching for answers."
The Matrix Online is scheduled for release in late 2004.
