Gran Turismo 4 to Have "Fun Features Aside from Driving"

GT4 Producer Kazunori Yamauchi says there's more to look forward to in the game than simple driving.

It is no secret that Gran Turismo 4 producer Kazunori Yamauchi loves cars, in particular, the Nissan 350Z. He actually owns two?one that is a stock 350Z that is the third produced car (number one is in the Nissan museum, number two is owned by Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn), and another which has been completely taken apart for tuning.

His love for Nissans prompted his appearance at the Nissan Style Week event, which is being held from March 27 to the 31st in Tokyo, Japan. There he discussed his love for driving games and hinted at a new feature for Gran Turismo 4.

Although now famous for his work on the Gran Turismo series, Yamauchi never expected to succeed in this way. "I never even thought that I would be involved in making games," said Yamauchi at Nissan Style Week. "It's all luck and coincidence. I was a beginner in terms of developing games, so in the beginning it was all trial and error. While developing games, I was studying them as well."

In addition to the "human element" and extensive research done in physics modeling, he has promised a new element that can be enjoyed aside from driving.

"The fun of cars is not just in riding them," said Yamauchi. "There are those who just love even just gazing at them. We can't unveil any specifics, but we wish to bring out the fun of cars apart from simply driving them in [Grand Turismo] 4."

He would not comment further on that vague statement, only saying that the specifics are expected to be unveiled at this year's E3. It's a little more than a month away, so stay tuned!

Sony and Nissan worked together to produce S-tune GT 350z, which costs about $60,000.
