Sony to Hold Final Fantasy XI Launch Event

Gamers who live near San Francisco will be among the first to own Final Fantasy XI.

Final Fantasy XI doesn?t officially ship until tomorrow, but lucky gamers in the San Francisco Bay Area can head up to the PlayStation store in the Metreon shopping center this evening for a midnight launch celebration. The Metreon is at 101 Fourth Street in downtown San Francisco.

All attendees will be able to sample the game as well as have the opportunity to be one of the first to purchase the PS2 Hard Drive along with Final Fantasy XI at 12:01 am on Tuesday morning.

Sony will also be holding a costume contest and awarding prizes to the two best Final Fantasy character costumes. The complete schedule for the event is as follows:

  • 7:00 p.m. Consumers lining up
  • 8:00 p.m. Gameplay opportunities
  • 12:01 a.m. PlayStation 2 Hard Disk Drive pre-installed with FINAL FANTASY XI goes on sale
