Standalone console allows consumers to use their original Famicom cartridges without a GBA.
Gametech, the makers of NeoFami and AdoFami, will release a standalone console that lets players use their original Famicom (Japanese NES) cartridges to play games. In line with the retro-Famicom fervor that's hitting the game industry in Japan, Gametech has been releasing systems that enable Famicom cartridge owners to use their old games. The first, the NeoFami, is a regular sized console released in December 2003; the second, AdoFami, is a peripheral that attaches to the Game Boy Advance that piggybacks the handheld console to play the original games; the third, still unnamed console is a standalone handheld system that will be able to play Famicom games by itself.
Although specific details remain unknown, the system will be officially unveiled and sold in stores in Japan in the near future.
