Taking a step back from the usual zombies, Capcom introduces a different type of game.
Famitsu magazine has unveiled BioHazard 4 (the Japanese version of Resident Evil 4), showing a completely reworked game. Gone are the days of traveling through pre-rendered screens and shooting at hordes of fumbling zombies. Replacing this aging system is a full 3D game emphasizing high-paced action rather than strategic horror.Players will once again play as Leon S. Kennedy, who (making a return from Resident Evil 2) is a special agent sent to Europe to investigate the kidnapping of the president's daughter. Searching for leads, Leon comes across a mountain village filled with crazed inhabitants bent on killing him. The villagers however, are anything but mindless zombies, charging with chainsaws, throwing sickles from a distance, and climbing up ladders to pursue you.
Gameplay mechanics have been given a much-needed overhaul, with the game playing from a slightly off-centered third-person perspective that allows players to see what' is directly in front of them. Aiming is now manual, enabling Leon to shoot at specific parts of the body. Also, an action button gives Leon the ability to jump through windows, kick enemies, and push down ladders. In a series first, rideable vehicles have been introduced, with one sequence showing Leon on a motorboat armed with a spear.
Previous Resident Evil games have been mere expansions of the original idea, but Resident Evil 4 looks to be a completely different breed. Stay tuned for more Resident Evil 4 info!
