Star Wars Republic Details Announced

LucasArts introduces a new Star Wars squad-based first-person shooter set during the Clone Wars.

LucasArts announced Star Wars Republic Commando for the PC and Xbox, a squad-based first person shooter putting you in the role of an elite Republic Special Operations unit. Taking place during the Clone Wars, the game will feature familiar Star Wars characters, including General Grievous, who will appear in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode III.

As an elite trooper, the player will have a variety of weapons to choose from to blast your way through the 15 levels, including a repeating blaster with attachments for sniping, anti-armor weaponry, Trandoshan slaver shotgun, Geonosian elite beam, and the ubiquitous thermal detonator. You and your three-man team can be controlled through a "smart squad" command system, based on markers and stances.

Both the PC and Xbox versions will include deathmatch, team deathmatch and capture the flag, with the Xbox version optimized for Xbox Live. The game will be released in fall 2004.
