Sony unveils a concept unit for their handheld gaming "walkman."
Sony has shed more light on their all-in-one handheld game system that includes a digital music and video player and could even act as mobile telephone. The PSP?s promised versatility and processing prowess will make it a hard contender against the GBA, Nokia?s N-Gage and Apple?s iPod.

"PSP will be the Walkman of the future," declared Ken Kutaragi, Sony's executive deputy president and head of its gaming business. He also added at a news conference afterwards that Sony will eventually add telecommunication features to the PSP, hinting at its possible function also as a cell phone.
The PSP concept presented by Kutaragi has a letterbox 16:9 LCD screen that is 4.5 inches in diameter, a directional pad, and 4 traditional Playstation buttons all flush with the unit?s front. Instead of using ROM cartridges like the GBA, the PSP will use 1.8GB, 60mm-wide Universal Media Discs. Keep in mind this is only a prototype concept model right now, and does not necessarily reflect what the final device will look like.
Sony also announced that it will release a product rivaling the iPod digital music player next year for as little as $60.
