EA Announces the development of The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth for the PC

The battle for Middle-earth will begin in EA?s upcoming RTS game

Electronic Arts officially announced today the development of The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth for the PC. Developed at EA Los Angeles by the same team that created Commander & Conquer Red Alert 2 and Command & Conquer Generals, the latest Lord of the Rings game will feature environments and scenes from the upcoming movie. Unlike other LOTR games, Battle for Middle-Earth allows you to choose to fight on Sauron?s side.

The Battle for Middle-earth uses the Generals game engine, and players can select from different "good" or "evil" campaigns, where they can command armies similar from the ones seen in the movies, each with their own distinct strengths and weaknesses. The game will feature exclusive voiceover from the real actors as well as footage from the three films.

The game is set for release for the PC in the summer of 2004.
