MS Wants To Talk to You About Snowskating

The snowboard alternative is debuting in Amped 2.

Have you ever heard of snowskating before? If so, you're a member of a very exclusive club?proponents of the hybrid sport just held the first U.S. Open of Snowskating on Mt. Hood in Oregon four weeks ago. Fortunately, if you're a fan, Microsoft's got you covered on the game front: today they announced that snowskating is now an option in Amped 2, their technically-minded boarder game due out for the Xbox in October.

By this time you're undoubtedly wondering what the hell snowskating is. Well, wonder no more: invented by pro snowboarder Andy Wolf in 1998, a snowskate is a skateboard-sized ride with twin tips and a foam-top sheet for grip. The main draw here is that there aren't any bindings, unlike your typical snowboard, so you're free to pull off kickflips, ollies, one-footed stalls, nose slides and other skateboard-style moves as you course down the slopes. In Amped 2, snowskates are fairly easy to pick up but difficult to master?there's a whole new set of tricks to master, basically, and a lot of the fun for gamers here is taking a few runs to see how if they can do all the usual pavement moves on a snow-based surface.

More hands-on info is due in soon, so be patient.
