Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Screens

Li Mu Bai, Jen Yu, and the rest of the gang go at it.

Ubi Soft Entertainment released a healthy group of screenshots today from the PlayStation 2 version of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, their 3D action fighter based on the movie that started a small sensation in the U.S. a while back. The title's due to hit the PS2 in September for $39.99, with an Xbox port following two months later.

Few films lend themselves as easily to video game adaptation?but what could be better than magic, kung fu, and a world filled with diverse characters? In Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon you?ll play as one of four characters: Li Mu Bai, Yu Shu Lien, Jen Yu, or ?Dark Cloud? Lo. Each possesses unique fighting styles and special abilities. Ubi Soft is promising gravity-defying feats, devastating combos, and weapon-wielding mayhem to test your mastery of Wudan. Your character?s skills will improve as you overcome challenges throughout the game. Locations are derived from the film, and the Academy Award winning soundtrack accompanies the action.

The success of Crouching Tiger as a video game hinges on maintaining the fluid, kinetic style of fight choreographer Woo-Ping Yuen. If the developers can instill that level of energy into their brawls, CTHD could set a new standard for martial arts games.
