Play Doom III Multiplayer This August

Can you make it to Dallas this month? Then you're in luck.

Activision and id Software announced today that Doom III, the PC FPS that may or may not come out this year, will be available for public play at the annual QuakeCon event in Dallas, Texas next month. What's more, this won't be yet another Doom III demo?it'll be the first time the general public will get to play the game in multiplayer mode.

"What better way to celebrate QuakeCon than to unveil to our fans a preview of Doom III multiplayer?" said id head Todd Hollenshead in a statement. "While everyone knows that Doom III is the most terrifying and scary single player experience ever created, multiplayer delivers the intense competitive action that our fans can count on. It's a natural to debut the Doom III multiplayer experience at QuakeCon, the world's preeminent fan-based multiplayer gaming event."

The QuakeCon demo will allow up to four players to Deathmatch each other on a level co-developed by id and Splash Damage, makers of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and id's partner for the multiplayer bits of Doom III. The event begins August 14 and goes on until the 17th in Dallas; for more info, check the offical QuakeCon homepage.
