Namco's Symphonia is hitting Japan very, very soon.
As part of the PR blitz leading up to the game's August 29 Japan release, Namco revealed a new set of screenshots today from Tales of Symphonia, the newest game in their anime-like RPG series and a GameCube exclusive to boot. The game's coming to America sometime next year, so with luck gamers should begin seeing some English pics fairly soon.4000 years ago, the world of Silvalant was saved from evil nemesis Dizaia thanks to the work of the goddess Martel and a hero by the name of Mitos. Dizaia's back, though, and the only person with the power to banish this guy from whence he came is 16-year-old Collet Brunel... who just happens to be your childhood friend. As Lloyd Irving, a fairly typical teenager raised by a dwarf family, you must go on a quest with Collet to save the world, even though you realize that this will probably mean losing Collet (at least, in her human form) in the process.
Symphonia is the first fully-3D Tales game, and as a result it's undergone multiple gameplay enhancements. Enemies are now visible on the world map, so you're free to avoid them if you want to stay out of battles. The fighting system (now retitled the "Multi-Line Linear Motion Battle System") is also in 3D, with monsters positioned on three planes and Lloyd's party chaining combos together for maximum damage... not to mention maximum graphical excitement.
More info is likely to come with the game's Japanese release.
