Natsume picks up the PS2's strangest RPG ever.
Natsume sent word today that they have picked up the U.S. distribution rights for Chu-lip, a PlayStation 2 RPG adventure released in Japan last year by Victor Interactive. A Natsume rep GamePro spoke to earlier today stated that the game was currently in the process of being translated into English; although no firm release date has been set, the publisher is trying to get Chu-lip out in America before the end of the year.Chu-lip, developed by small Japanese studio Punchline, is a very odd adventure that mixes in a quirky Japanese backdrop with a wealth of pure gross-out humor. As a young boy who's just moved into the town of Tsurukame, you must build up your street cred in a quest to impress the woman of your dreams?the thing is, and the story behind this is a little complicated, you must do this by kissing as many of the town's inhabitants as possible. The game runs in real time, and most of the game is spent figuring out the daily schedule of each townsperson (or towns-creature) and what he or she wants from you in exchange for a kiss. The story's full of strange characters and even stranger dialogue, and it's easy to picture Chu-lip becoming an underground hit among certain wacky types of console gamers.
Stay tuned for more info on the U.S. version as it comes.
