MechAssault Gets New Online Maps, Modes

Bit of a stealth release this time...

Although Microsoft Game Studios didn't make any formal announcement about it, the publisher uploaded the third round of Xbox Live content updates to 3D robot shooter MechAssault earlier this week. The new downloadable content, available right now when you log onto Xbox Live with the game, includes a fairly wide range of additions to online play.

First off, there are three new game maps: Demolition Town, a city connected together by bridges; Jotenheim, an ice level only available for Capture the Flag games; and Rock Solid, a lunar surface pockmarked with craters. In addition to this, Microsoft's added three new game modes (five if you count the "team" versions), most of which are based off informal "host rules" that gamers have created by themselves. They are: Scout Match, a bog-standard deathmatch limited to small mechs only; Skirmish, the same thing but with small or medium mechs; and Giant Killers, a tag-like game pitting multiple Elementals against a single heavy mech. These new modes can only be played on the Demolition Town and Rock Solid game maps, although these two levels can also be used for any other game mode except CTF.
