Xenosaga Episode II Name Decided?

The philosophical ramifications are staggering.

Although Namco hasn't made any official announcement, a trademark registration filed in Japan gave a clue today on what the next game in the Xenosaga series might be called.

The filing, originally submitted on April 1 and revealed in a search of the Japan Patent Office's Web page, gives Namco the trademark to the title "Jenseits von Gut und B?se" as well as its Japanese counterpart "Zen'aku no Higan". The phrase is German for "Beyond Good and Evil," which is more than the name of an upcoming Ubi Soft production?it's the name of a book by philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, whom Xenosaga designer Tetsuya Takahashi has said is a major influence on his games. Hmm. The first game, of course, was subtitled "Der Wille zur Mache" (The Will to Power), so if Takahashi is continuing with the German subtitles, it appears that this could be the one for Episode 2.

The next Xenosaga will likely come out for the PlayStation 2 next year. Developer Monolith Soft is holding a public event in Tokyo on July 21 where they're expected to reveal the first details on their new game.
