Atari Gets Its DBZ Working Again

Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu will storm your GBA in a few months.

Just when you thought they'd draw the line at Legacy of Goku II and Budokai 2, Atari sent word today that they've got another original Dragon Ball Z title in the works for this year. This new game, titled Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu, will come out for the Game Boy Advance this November; Webfoot Technologies (makers of the Legacy of Goku titles) will handle development work.

"We are excited to add Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu to the library of authentic DBZ games and provide fans with an explosive fighting-action game for the Game Boy Advance," said Atari vice president Nancy MacIntyre in a release. "The enormous success of the Dragon Ball Z portfolio is a tribute to the power and recognition of the DBZ franchise."

Taiketsu means "showdown" in Japanese, and that's exactly what Atari's promising with this game, the first true fighting game the company's released in the DBZ series. You'll have a chance to control characters from across the entire series, including Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Trunks, Frieza, Piccolo, Cell and (last but not least) Buu, the pinkest villain in anime history. All these fighters will have at it in a number of animated environments, including Orange Star City and Master Roshi's backyard, as they compete in single-player tournaments, endurance challenges, or the two-player battle mode. (Up to four fighters?two humans and two AI-controlled characters?can be used in the multiplayer game.)

We'll have more info on this game shortly, so stay tuned.
