Another old Sega franchise makes the great jump to 3D. This one's on the PS2?how will it survive the transition?
For Sega fanatics, today's announcements should bring about fits of nostalgia and random bursts of 16-bit fanboyism. First the company announced a sequel to phantom Dreamcast title Headhunter, and now they've made official what's been rumored for the past couple weeks?Vectorman, an icon to Genesis owners in the mid-90s, is making a PlayStation 2 comeback. The new game, simply called Vectorman (much like PS2 Shinobi, you see), is a third-person action shooter starring the titular robot, a blobular creation with access to 15 weapons and 25 different body upgrades. His goal, as always, is to defeat Volt and keep him from keeping the planet of Gamma 6 wrapped around his finger.
No Vectorman screens have been released yet, but so far the game sounds like it's trying to be more than just another 3D shooter. In the initial announcement, Sega touts the advanced physics engine developer Pseudo Interactive is creating for the game?you'll be able to destroy the environments at will, knocking over buildings and using the debris as cover against enemies. The AI is also worth mentioning: normal Orbots (the planet's inhabitants) will go through their daily lives in each stage, and enemy soldiers will take cover and use complicated strategies to take you on in the battlefield.
Stay tuned for more info soon?it won't be long before E3 begins, after all.
